Nicholas G. Pejic MD
"I approach my patients by spending valuable time understanding and treating the whole person. This approach incorporates my patient's childhood, personality, education, current relationships, and medical history. I may prescribe medications, refer to psychotherapy, give homework assignments or suggest making changes in diet, exercise, work and relationships. I am driven by helping my patients stabilize and improve their lives. This is my commitment to them." --Dr. Pejic
Nicholas G. Pejic MD is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and Psycho-
somatic Medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is primarily a dedicated psychopharmacologist, yet firmly believes in the effectiveness of psychotherapy. He attentively spends 90 minutes for the intial evaluation to ensure a correct diagnosis, to develop a solid rapport and to establish a detailed treatment plan. His style of therapy is rooted in motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy.
He specializes in treating college and graduate students and working and retired adults for a variety of issues including substance abuse, addiction, career and relationship problems, attention problems, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and psychosis.
Dr. Pejic is a graduate of Tulane University and Tulane University School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree in 2004. He completed his General Psychiatry Residency and Chief Residency at LSU School of Medicine and Ochsner Medical Center. He completed a Fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine at LSU in June 2010, where he maintains a clinical faculty position teaching neuropsychiatry to resident physicians.
Dr. Pejic created Atlas Psychiatry in October 2008 to provide a private and pleasant experience for patients undergoing expert psychiatric evaluation, especially since this can be a uniquely stressfull time for patients.
The name "Atlas" comes from the Greek root durus, which means "hard" or "enduring". Dr. Pejic chose "Atlas Psychiatry" to signify the difficult struggle patients have with life's decisions as well as psychiatric disorders. He enjoys partnering with his patients to shoulder their troubles or illness, while hopefully making life better.
At Tulane University in Fall 2010, Dr. Pejic began teaching a career course for freshmen entitled "A psychiatrist's guide to knowing thy self." This course blends cognitive behavioiral therapy with techniques that help to determine a student's authentic self in formulating future life goals.
